Fire Coal

A story of keeping close to others

A cool story

I love the story of the minister/vicar who went to visit one of his church members who had not been attending church for a while.

The man invited his church leader in and they both sat before the open fire watching the dancing flames for a while. Without saying anything the minister, using the fire tongs, picked up a piece of coal out of the fire and put it onto the stone fire surround. They both watched the coal as it turned from a glowing, hot, red colour to a cool grey-black. Still without saying anything the minister picked up the cooled coal and placed it back in the fire where it soon burned bright again. Then, still without saying anything, the minister left.

The man was in church the following Sunday.
