“I can’t!”

Looking at your way of thinking.

There will be things that you presently can’t do but you need to decide to speak about them differently.

Believing what you say

A defeated “I can’t” seem to be words that come out of some people’s mouths far more than others. How often you use this phrase reveals much about your inner attitude. Those people we find encouraging and uplifting to be around say these words very little. People who repeat this statement often struggle though life and soon weigh us down too.

Question to answer honestly to yourself: Do you have an “I can’t” attitude to life or an “I can”?

It is important. Just the use of the phrase repeatedly affects the way you live. It is a self-fulfilling statement. If you say “I can’t” then you come to believe it and you will live what you believe.

Something to do: Today decide never to use the phrase “I can’t” again!

There will be things that you presently can’t do but you need to decide to speak about them differently. “I can’t do that yet,” “That is something that I am going to have to work on,” “I will need some help to do that,” “at the moment I don’t have the skills for that.” All of these statements honestly reflect a present inability but they do not close the door in the way that “I can’t” does. There is room for growth and God-given possibility.

God will not ask you to do the impossible—that is His business.

With God, I can

Many Christians are defeated daily because they have brought into their Christian lives this “I can’t” attitude. With God all things are possible—not all things are necessarily beneficial—but all things are possible. “With God, I can,” should be the phrase that trips off the Christian’s tongue. God will not ask you to do the impossible—that is His business.

There are many “I can” phrases in the Bible and it is my intention to look at some of these in future articles in this “Attitude” section of this website. I hope you will want to look at them with me. We need to choose to live in God’s “I can” world. So start today and print off, pray and sign the prayer below to get you going.

God who can do immeasurably more than I can hope or imagine,

I want to lead a victorious Christian life not a defeated one. I want to be a person that others find uplifting, not someone who makes others feel low. This is something that I need you to do in me but I recognise my part in that change process. I will stop using the phrase “I can’t” and I ask that you will teach me how to replace that with Your attitude that, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I accept that you will never ask me to do the impossible and I commit myself to living an “I can” life. Amen
